Following days of heated discussions surrounding the India vs. Bharat debate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged his ministers to refrain from making any comments on the matter. According to sources, during a Council of Ministers meeting where various topics including the upcoming G20 Summit were deliberated, the Prime Minister emphasized the directive to “abstain from making remarks.”

This meeting was convened in preparation for the forthcoming G20 Summit scheduled to take place in Delhi on September 9 and 10.

Over the past 48 hours, the renaming of India to Bharat has ignited a significant political dispute within the country.

The controversy ignited when an official dinner invitation for the G20 event, issued by President Droupadi Murmu, referred to her as the ‘President of Bharat’ rather than ‘President of India.’ This led to widespread speculation regarding the possibility of renaming the country, with many speculating that it might be a part of the agenda for the upcoming Special Session of Parliament.

Political row over possible renaming of India

In response to the escalating political dispute over the potential renaming of India, former Congress leader Sonia Gandhi penned a letter to Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday. In her letter, she proposed a list of nine topics for discussion during the Special Session of Parliament, which is set to commence on September 18.

The government has responded assertively, suggesting that Gandhi has disregarded the traditional protocol, where the agenda need not be deliberated before the session’s commencement.
