The Indian Air Force (IAF) today marked its 93rd anniversary with a spectacular ceremonial parade at the Hindon Air Force Base, solidifying its reputation as a formidable global air power. With the unofficial theme of “Sky Warriors: Protecting India with Valor and Vision,” this year’s IAF Day 2025 celebrations served as a powerful testament to the force’s operational readiness and commitment to self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat).

The highlight of the event, which drew significant national attention, was the celebration of the IAF’s recent strategic triumph, Operation Sindoor. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh detailed the mission’s success, emphasizing how the swift, precise air strikes forced an opponent to seek a ceasefire, underscoring India’s credible deterrence capability. The static display featured the very platforms crucial to the mission, including the potent Rafale omnirole fighters, the versatile Sukhoi Su-30MKI fleet, and advanced indigenous systems like the Netra AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning and Control) aircraft.

Blending legacy with leapfrog technology, the ceremony paid a moving tribute to the legendary MiG-21 Bison, which recently saw its formal decommissioning. The iconic fighter, which served the nation for over six decades and even played a role in Operation Sindoor, was positioned as a museum piece alongside the modern jets, symbolizing the IAF’s rich history. Looking firmly to the future, the IAF also celebrated a groundbreaking milestone in human spaceflight: Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s successful mission earlier this year as the first Indian pilot to board the International Space Station (ISS), highlighting the IAF’s evolving domain from air and surface to space.

In a move to nationalize the celebrations, the grand aerial spectacle—the traditional flypast—will be held separately. Officials confirmed that the breathtaking air display, featuring formations of fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters, is scheduled to take place in Guwahati in mid-November, extending the visibility of the nation’s Vayu Shakti to the eastern region. This strategic decentralization aims to inspire youth across India and showcase the Air Force’s might far beyond the National Capital Region. The 93rd IAF Day ultimately reaffirmed the dedication and professionalism of India’s air warriors who continue to “Touch the Sky with Glory.”
