In a pivotal electoral challenge, the Opposition’s INDIA coalition faces off against the ruling NDA, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, in seven assembly bypolls across six states. The results, to be announced this Friday, hold significant implications for both the upcoming assembly polls in five states later this year and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The vote count commences at 8 am in designated centers within each respective state. The seven contested seats, including Bageshwar (Uttarakhand), Ghosi (Uttar Pradesh), Puthuppally (Kerala), Dhupguri (West Bengal), Dumri (Jharkhand), Boxanagar, and Dhanpur (Tripura), witnessed polling on September 5.
Notably, among these seats, the BJP held three (Dhanpur, Bageshwar, and Dhupguri), while the Samajwadi Party, CPI(M), JMM, and Congress each secured one seat (Ghosi, Boxanagar, Dumri, and Puthuppally, respectively). The outcome of these bypolls is poised to shape the political landscape in the lead-up to crucial electoral events.
